Fashola Urges Protesters Against Poor Electricity Supply Not to Destroy Facilities
Minister of Power, Works and Housing,
Mr. Babatunde Fashola on Monday admonished civil society organisations
protesting against poor power supply and exorbitant electricity bills to
exercise patience, saying the federal government is putting much effort
to ensure steady power.
He warned: “If you are dissatisfied with
the way things are being done, one of them is to protest, but protest
is not a platform for destruction and in making your protest, try not to
be destructive”.
Fashola, who stated this in Benin City,
capital of Edo state, during the 7th edition of Power Stakeholders
meeting, however acknowledged the poor power supply when he said: “We
have a sense that things are bad in terms of poor supply but they are
not necessarily a hopeless situation so when you say every business in
Benin have been shut is not true”.
According to him, “Nigeria has been
trying to metre ourselves since 1950. So, for over 60 years, we have not
finished that process. The process has not been working because if it
was working, we would not have sold it.”
