It's learning to live the paradox.

The paradox that this life is; think about it, what exactly in this life is sure and simply decoded?  Like take your description in the question, doing the right thing irrespective of consequences doesn't exactly make you brave. sometimes being brave means doing the wrong thing, or doing nothing because of the consequences that may present themselves.
There are no set of formulae that you can apply to the situations you face, there are always two choices, contradicting and conflicting, both seemingly right in different circumstances, it's the knowledge to make the right choice at the right time.

  • Maturity is realizing that things are not just black and white, they are grey and sometimes you need the darker shade and the other times the lighter one.
  • Maturity is being selfish enough to take care of yourself so that you become able enough to take care of someone else.
  • Maturity is knowing when to be childish and when to be a grown up and understanding that a part of healthy mental ageing is not letting the child within you die.
  • Maturity is wanting it all but knowing even all won't be enough.
  • Maturity is being practical but having faith in miracles too (they happen all the time)
  • Maturity is learning technicalities of something but sticking to your gut instincts and passion for it too.
  • Maturity is knowing when to hold and when to let go.
  • Maturity is knowing when to keep a secret and when to let a word have it's day

  • Maturity is knowing when to be gentle and when to be tough tough
  • Maturity is knowing until when to stand tall and just when to let your guard down.
  • Maturity is trusting the good in world but not being naive.
  • Maturity is loving someone  to death and beyond but setting them free too.
  • Maturity is asking for help but realize that ultimately it's all on you and just you.
  • Maturity is looking for answers but also knowing that you form your own answers along as you go.
  • Maturity is giving advice knowing that every person has to find his own way and figure it out for himself.
I could give you an endless list of paradoxes but the point is it's knowing "how much of what and when".

Maturity has nothing to do with age and experience, it's not a treasure comprising of gold coins that you pick along this road of life that you travel.

Maturity is a perspective, a way of looking at the journey.

What you pick along the way, you will spend, part ways with somewhere down the life but 'perspective' that you earn determines the course of your journey, determines the direction and purpose of it, that perspective is maturity, the number of years you live are just gold coins, they matter but not as much as perspective does, not as much as your maturity does.

Since this is all random philosophy, I'll leave you with a paradox about philosophers.paradox.
